Hartford’s first night brought thousands of people downtown, many eating and drinking at local restaurants and bars.

It was a crowded affair for downtown Hartford businesses as thousands came to ring in 2025 in the area.

Italian restaurant Salute said it was booked solid from late afternoon to late evening.

“They want to have an early dinner, go see the fireworks at 6 o’clock, walk around town and then get home at 7 and 8 o’clock for the kids,” James Cosgrive, owner of Salute, said.

The recently opened Hartford Flavor Cocktail Parlor hosted a New Year’s Eve dinner for the first time.

Operations Manager Tiffany Nevers said being on Pratt Street benefits her business, especially with regular events like First Night.

“I’m sure with the visits tonight we’ll definitely exceed 100 guests,” she said.

It was the same at Pietro’s Pizza, where they expected a New Year’s Eve rush.

“People are going to want to eat before they go out and do things, and then they’re going to eat after,” said Samantha Stramel, an employee at Pietro’s Pizza.

Hartford First Night organizers said they expect thousands of people to be in town to celebrate the new year. They say it’s an important time for many downtown businesses.

“It’s a celebration of our city’s arts, culture, civic life and our small businesses,” said Jennifer Crookes of Hartford First Night.
